How Your Age Affects Your Appetite

You may have been eating three wholesome meals with some snacks every few hours when you were a child or teen. What changed suddenly that now you don’t feel hungry enough to even take two meals a day, let alone in-between munching? We often fail to realise but our appetite, i.e., our desire to eat undergoes change, precisely 7 times in our entire life.

Here we shed light on these 7 stages to answer the common question: Does appetite increase with age? Yes! It does. Let's see how:

Phase 1: Age 0 – 10 years

This is the most beautiful phase of life called childhood and while a child’s body is growing rapidly and needs nutritious food, it’s also important to teach kids an ideal portion control at this stage. If children are forced to finish their plate clean before getting up from the table, they may never be able to learn to “listen to their bodies” and determine when and how much they feel hungry. This might even extend to adulthood and cause problems of overeating.

Phase 2: Age 10 – 20 years

This is teenage time and our appetite is largely driven by changing hormones. It’s a very crucial time too because at this stage you get to learn how nutrition affects aging. What you eat now and how much can have a direct impact on your health in later years.

Phase 3: Age 20 – 30 years

This stage is generally accompanied with weight gain because life gets busier and even stressful. You tend to move out of home for studies or job, get married, or have kids. The body may start indicating in the form of appetite signals when energy is low. Often we tend to overeat at this time too, again because of stress, and the body’s signals to prevent overeating may not be that strong either.

Phase 4: Age 30 – 40 years

Here too, the stress of everyday life starts impacting the appetite. Research shows that the sudden loss of appetite causes in 80% people are daily stress and busy work schedules.

Phase 5: Age 40 – 50 years

Whatever you eat in the earlier phases may start showing up now in the form of higher cholesterol, hypertension, or diabetes. And changes in dietary patterns in turn start affecting appetite. That brings us to the question – does your appetite decrease as you lose weight? You may lose weight because of the new diet plan you follow but with a bit of exercise and physical activity, you can restore your appetite.

Phase 6: Age 50 – 60 years

Does your stomach shrink as you get older? No, but your appetite starts slowly diminishing because of loss of muscle mass, low physical activity, and even menopause in women.

Phase 7: Age 70 and above

The primary cause for loss of appetite in the elderly is their unwillingness to eat alone, dental problems, digestion issues, or lack of smell and taste.

It’s therefore important to listen to our body’s appetite signals in order to welcome a healthy future.

Yoga to Lose Post-Pregnancy Weight Gain

Pregnancy is undoubtedly a beautiful experience but also comes with its set of pros and cons (of course the pros nearly always outweigh the cons, for your baby makes it all worth it). One not-so-favourable after-effect of pregnancy is weight gain. It’s only natural because your body undergoes numerous changes during the process but it doesn’t mean that you need to stay with it always.

You can start working towards shedding off all the extra flab as soon as you feel that you’ve healed after delivery (and only you alone would be able to know when the right time is). While you’d hear lots of people discourage you from getting into rigorous gym routine just as yet, there are simple, stay-at-home ways which are equally effective, harmless, and allow you to keep an eye on the baby too. Try yoga and see for yourself!

Finding The Right Elder Care Option For Your Family

Ageing is a natural process of life. We all have to get there one day. And, they don’t just say that kids and the elderly are very alike for no reason at all. They are indeed very similar, meaning that caring for aging parents is probably going to be the same as caring for your kids.

Now, if they’re still healthy and very much on their own, good for them and you. But as time goes by, before you even realise, old age hits and hits real hard too. The symptoms of ageing start becoming more evident; their needs start shifting as they need and also demand more attention.

If you’re at home (and willing) to look after them as they go through this tough stage of their lives, it’s settled right there. But if you’re working, have small kids, or find it difficult for any other reason to provide proper care and attention, it’s time to start exploring your options for elderly care.

Elderly Care Options for your Family

It’s your loved ones we’re talking about here and therefore the choice isn’t going to be easy. Look at it this way: the first time you start looking for a playgroup for your toddler; making sure that everything’s right for him/her when they’re away from you. It’s similar to that. You’d need to ensure that whatever option you choose for your parents is in their best interest.

1. Assisted living:

This is perhaps one of the best choices to make when the elders can neither live on their own nor require medical care facilities on daily basis (as in a full-time nurse). You can find assisted living communities in or near your area that offer the facility of meals, housekeeping, reminders to take medications on time, and other planned activities to keep them engaged and happy all day.

2. Caregivers:

This would be an ideal choice if your family member insists to stay in the privacy and familiarity of their own home environment. When they begin to seek more help and you aren’t available all the time, you could hire a caregiver in the form of a personal care attendant or a certified nurse.

While the former can help around with all of their routine needs like cooking for them or cleaning up their room, the latter would be great help in regular monitoring of their health condition, and even bathing and dressing them.

3. Caring for the elderly at home

This does seem ideal from the point of view of the elderly because nobody other than their own relations can look after them any better. However, understandably, it’s a crucial decision to make because of a number of factors – your work schedule, kids at home, or even the relationship of your parents with your spouse/partner.

What to Consider While Choosing a Caregiver

You need someone who can care for your family member like their very own; therefore:

  • Determine why they need a caregiver in the first place (ascertain their exact needs)
  • Assess your finances
  • Prepare a thorough questionnaire for interviewing the caregiver
  • Perform background checks on the person chosen
  • Value the opinion of the elderly member in question

To sum up

At the end of the day, it’s entirely a personal decision on who you choose;just make sure that your family member is happy and well looked after.

It’s common knowledge that companies were required to buy and manage servers on their own. This demanded huge financial and human resource investment. Therefore, only a few big firms could even dream of using the full potential of the digital revolution.
Cloud technology changed all this. It literally brought the digital revolution to the doorstep of small enterprises. Now even they could access all the software, infrastructure, and global web platforms.
All this without the need to buy a single server! The business could directly stream applications from the internet, accessing the best beyond the four walls of their facility.
  • Easy scalability:
One of the many advantages of cloud for small firms is that it allows them to grow with market demand. Whenever you need to and are ready to expand, just log on to your service provider to add users. It’s that simple! No more hassle of buying server and making costly upgrades to workstations to accommodate increased staff.
  • Easy automation:
Automatic work processes greatly help a small business by improving its operations. It has a direct relation to higher productivity and reduced costs. Besides that, automating repetitive tasks reduces chances or error and provides better quality. All this and much more comes with the cloud computing package.
  • Makes remote work possible:
Imagine being able to access, edit, or share docs from anywhere without being physically present at one place? This can benefit a company by facilitating work collaboration between traditional and remote employees working on same projects. Cloud makes this possible.
Workers can transfer files using computers and mobile devices. This helps save time and track work progress. Cloud’s collaboration tool can actually increase work productivity by up to 40% or more.
  • Easy backup and disaster saviour:
An in-house data backup provision means a lot of time and money. For this reason, a small company can easily suffer because of hard drive failure or data loss during power cuts.
  • With Cloud computing, data backups and disaster prevention is essentially the headache of your service provider. And, they do it well by providing adequate security against hardware failure and performing routine backups to safeguard against cyber attacks.

Conclusion

Cloud has shown light at the end of the tunnel to many small firms. It has literally allowed them to compete on a global scale. Switch to cloud computing and change the face of your business today!
